Just when I thought I knew about everyone in my neighborhood, I am taken by surprise! Al, our older gentleman neighbor who lost his wife to cancer three years ago asked me to come over with the names of my grandchildren. His late wife was a children’s book author who had a new book recently published. He wanted to give me them for my grandchildren to enjoy. As I stepped into his house (which I had never been inside before) I realized that here was a very artistic man! All over the shelves, mantel, cupboards were carvings of various birds mostly. Sandpipers, chickadees, geese, ducks. Also Kachina (Indian dolls) what I call them. Turns out that Al is a wood carver! His wife, was an author. Together they put their artistic abilities to bless others. Just thinking that I have lived next door to Al for over 2 years but this was the first time that he helped me learn more about himself. What a blessing! To me I think that it helps me to remember not to judge people before walking in their shoes a bit. I am happy that he decided to show more of himself to me and I can share that with my grandchildren. I just have to think of something to bless him back with!!
My morning walks with my dog are always such a good way to start the day. It makes me greatful for living in an area with such pretty flowering bushes and trees. This morning all the lilac bushes are in full beauty!
