Life Musings

By

Today I am thinking about children, and specifically my grandchildren. How many more times will I manage to spend time with them? One in Germany, not very close. Seven who live about three hours away.

We have traveled to Germany at least once a year to see Marty who is nine. It is never enough time. I want to spend good quality time, not just a quick visit. This is always a challenge.

I see my other grandchildren on average of once a month. I wish it could be more. Not having public transport makes it hard since we have only one vehicle. I always think, what if I was able to take a train to see them? I would go much more often.

When we were in France for an extended time we rode trains everywhere. I would always see grandmotherly types riding with their day baskets and purses. I wondered if they were off to see their family a train ride away? I thought wouldn’t it be great if I could do that too back home in the US?

At the same time I worry about my children. What world will they live in for the next fifty years? What species will disappear never to be seen by humans again? What environmental issues will there be? These are the thoughts that go around my head during nights I can’t sleep.

My hope remains that there will be an extinction of racism, intolerance, hate, oligarchy, and dictators. I also wish for a general turnaround, where most people have empathy for others less fortunate than themselves.

My biggest wish I feel is to leave my grandchildren with a sweet memory of their Oma. One filled with love and hope, many books read to them, many gingerbread houses made at Christmas. Many fun trips to the shops, or park or zoo.

Love and Peace to you!

Tschüss!

We empower our aspirations by empowering each other and future generations.

We love our families. I replaced my 87-year-old neighbor’s trash bin for her and thought to myself, I hope someone will do this for me when I’m in my 80s! Then I thought how different life could be, and there might not even be trash bins or something, and would I even want to live in a world so ultra-modern? Nature is our constant, making children who grow to make children. Thanks for sharing.
