How do we live?

Today I am writing about how do we go on with our lives in America. The new administration is dishing out hate with an extra large shovel. Recently at the Munich Security Conference, JD Vance made it very clear. The US is in alliance with Russia. They are pulling out of the transatlantic alliance. He is more worried about returning to the age of racism and the rights of billionaires. The US is aligning with Russia, a country where freedom of speech does not exist. The countries that have been our friends, helped us out when we needed it. Been there during times of unrest in the world. They are now reeling in the unbelief of this new America. This new kingdom under the reign of white men who will slay the poor, the discouraged, the needy.

We have to go on. We aren’t an island. We live our lives. We take care of our families. We shop. We eat. We love. We continue despite the onslaught of daily lies and confusion from the powers that be.

I want to help those that cannot help themselves. If you are one who is scared I am with you. If you are worried about what will happen that has not yet happened, I stand with you. I also have fear. You are not alone.

Momsthoughts quotes Franz Kafka who was a Jewish Austrian-Czech novelist and writer

When you stand in front of me and look at me, what do you know of the griefs that are in me and what do I know of yours?”.

What are your thoughts?

This is a moving and earnest post deserving of thoughtful introspection and action for those affected, (including us expat Canadians). Personally, having been a child of the ’60s, taking a bus to NYC to join 100,000+ others in protesting the VietNam War–the generation which occupied university Presidents’ offices, shut down government, and virtually ended a war through persistent action–I’d start from the bottom. The bottom, meaning, one’s elected Representatives, be they Republican or Democrat, and find like-minded souls to organize and swarm and pester and otherwise be a presence which cannot be ignored. That attracts media and amplifies one’s individual voice into a focused entity and force. Of course, this ain’t the ’60s, with the public largely in tacit agreement, but a terrifyingly polarized time where protest is (often) met head-on by a countervailing and angry opposition.

And….I haven’t lived in the USA for 50+ years, and won’t even visit anymore, so my opinions are from afar and therefore easily given…but here in Canada we are organizing lists of products made in the USA so we can boycott them, while at the same time digging deep to find our nascent patriotism which is usually not overtly expressed, and bringing out the fighting spirit lying deep within every Canadian. What expression this ultimately takes has yet to be seen, but we are angry, which is a good place to start. I hung a bigass Canadian flag from our front deck yesterday in solidarity.

I hope you will find that place within, to be effective, yet prudently self-protective. These, frankly, are dangerous times.

Yes, it has gotten so polarized here. I suppose that we are not alone, my son in Germany says the AFD is gaining ground. I even suspect the car ramming might be tied to them in the end. I have some neighbors who refuse to take a side and just say that they love both sides. I can’t do that anymore in good conscious. I will protest when I can and be vocal to a point. I guess that is where my writing is helping. I am not the most eloquent of speakers, never have been. Whilst nursing, I learned to speak up as an advocate for my patients. This is exactly what I mean to do. I want to be an advocate for those who don’t even perhaps know they need one. To simply go along with the racist, homophobic, pharisee-like judging and re-writing of history just makes me ill. I would move if I could out of the US. I have wanted to for a long time. Thank you for your kind, thoughtful words. I appreciate them so much!

I am also boycotting US companies that have made clear of their policies. We plan to holiday out of the US too but that is not new. Infact, we are coming up to Canada in April to visit Mike’s son who lives in Vancouver 😊
