Oma is protesting!

By

I have never been a protester type of person. I have long been one to go along with the flow. This is about to change. I believe we are in the midst of great terrible change in America. We have a narcissistic hateful man in charge of the government. He is doing some great harm and not only to the USA. No longer can we sit and just wait it out.

I am participating in the widely advertised April 5th protest day. I live in a remote part of Colorado. We will be out there tomorrow with our signs, flags, and perhaps masks. It may snow, it may rain, but we will be there. Peacefully protesting what is happening.

I believe this is bigger than the North America in which I live. We have insulted all of our allies. (By we I mean the American Government representatives). It is not really “we”. It is them. They are a cult group who came into power due to a weird propaganda machine and money. Billionaires who donated to his cult will shortly I believe be feeling it in their loss.

There is so much damage happening in all areas of our lives. The current administration has defunded many health-related agencies. These include cancer research and Telehealth programs. The goal of Telehealth was to improve access and enhance various areas of research.

Medicare for all is one of Bernie Sanders platforms that I totally agree with. There is so much uncertainty for many regarding Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Not to mention the rising balloon of inflation and cost of living. I am a registered nurse and worked on a volunteer medical clinic van for underserved communities.

I learned about so many young families, single mothers, and persons who needed healthcare but had no access to it.

I am also one of those. I have no insurance. Working nurses only have full benefits if they pay lots of money monthly to insurance companies. I am no longer employed and choose not to pay for expensive insurance. That is my choice. But I believe everyone has a right to healthcare. Proper healthcare. See a doctor. Have a mole looked at. Have your eyes examined. Get your teeth cleaned.

Have any of you ever felt so passionate about something? Did you write a letter, protest in a crowd, or stick a sign in your yard? I would love to hear what you did.

We are all in the global community! We have to uphold one another and love whom is in front of us.

Just love the one in front of you. Take in the orphan, take in the Widow. Just love the one in front of you.” – Heidi Baker

Bravo. You are probably the last person to want to be viewed as heroic, but reaching that very difficult decision of becoming actively involved in giving voice to your deeply held values is what has made your country what it stands for–the democratic right of each citizen to express his/her/their opinion without censorship. In college I took a bus to NYC and marched with about 100,000 others to the United Nations Plaza and listened to Stokely Carmichael and others decry the VietNam war, and then on my 21st b’day, after receiving my Order To Report for induction, I flew to Halifax and renewed my ‘Canadian Born Abroad’ citizenship and never looked back. I loved America but had lost my respect for it. Little has happened to change my mind–especially now. In the ’90s I took a bus with other clergy 12hrs north on Vancouver Island to the old growth forests being logged and held a Service of Thanksgiving on one of the huge stumps in an awful clearcut, right next to a vast stand of great trees about to be harvested.
We have to do what we have to do.
And yes, just like we Canadians enjoy taxpayer-paid healthcare benefits (from visits to the M.D., to major surgeries and therapies), so indeed do you and all your fellow Americans. It isn’t perfect, believe me, but soon I’ll get my knee replaced and be billed exactly, zero.
I hope at least the weather is good there today as you meet with your fellow Coloradoans and do what is right.

Appreciate your kind words of encouragement! From you who have indeed been a survivor of injustice and have such courage! It was the worst weather imaginable Saturday in the mountains! Still, there were around 500 other people to huddle with!

I remember my parents speaking out against the tree carnage, the owls, and other animals affected with the logging billionaires. Unfortunately, man especially in America has always looked upon the land and other things as opportunities to fill their coffers.

I think maybe this is the end of the American Empire. Trump seems to be tariffing his way to destroy our country. It may be sad, but really it doesn’t affect me. I can live without plastic things. I can not have to have blackberries that come from Chile. It is all relevant. But the thing I am most upset about is not having any healthcare. It has been years since I have seen a doctor. That makes me mad.

Thanks for all your words, I love reading them. I will be flying into Canada next week! Yay! Looking forward to talking to people and seeing how they are.

      Tshüss!

So glad you were part of the big event on Saturday. What’s going on is crushing. And I am so mad at the people who voted for it. They were warned. Now we are all suffering because of it. We need to keep at it. I plan on protesting whenever I can and am so happy you did too. Thank you.
